Life Drawing/Sketches: People of Saigon (2020-now)
After the first Covid-19 wave hit us in spring of 2020, in May 2020, Saigon began normalizing public activities. I am always on the street observing people and the liveliness of Saigon, so I really enjoyed going out again.
Supermarket, underground food-town, parking-lot, and Nguyễn Huệ walking streets are some of my favorite destination to sketch.
May & June, 2020. Between the hits of covid. I love wandering on the streets of my hometown and noticing delicate elements to remind me of that period of time. Posting this a year later made it even more reflective!
2021 Tet Holiday with social distancing. Sketch on Nguyen Hue Flower Street
Late night sketch in the dark, sitting in front of Bitexco tower looking at exhausted citizens, right before Tet Holiday.
These drawings are done in Gò Vấp cultural park in the evening, with me watching young dudes playing soccer, family playing badminton, children running on the playground. The advantage of sketching in the dark, is I don't have to worry about my drawings, and then I have to count on my feeling and gestural movement of my hand when looking at them.
